Curious to hear more about what has come of the work that I, Kim, have been doing neighbours in Boyle Street for the past few months? Be in touch!
This summer, Kim met with all sorts of neighbours in our large and diverse neighbourhood to keep nourishing our communities from the bottom up. You can read more about it here in the Aug-Sept edition of the Boyle Street News.
In early October we had a neighbour gathering where we started organizing in different small groups to do things in the neighbourhood that we’ve always wanted to see! We shared what those dreams were, and then asked: what are the small first steps towards manifesting those dreams that we can do, together!
This winter we’ll be taking those small first steps, together, and we would love to have you join us!
The groups we formed were:
Communications and Outreach - among other things, we’ll be starting a regular newsletter and also trying to reach out to every neighbour to ensure everyone knows about the Community and can be involved!
Programming - doing the behind-the-scenes work of putting together classes, workshops, and events for neighbours (each other) in the neighbourhood, etc.
Community Wellbeing - doing the behind-the-scenes work to study and support creative interventions so that every neighbour has their needs met.
Beautification - doing the behind-the-scenes work to organize things like litter clean ups, taking care of green spaces in the neighbourhood, etc.
Civics - doing the behind-the-scenes work to ensure we have clear understanding of how City, Provincial, and Federal policies impact the neighbourhood, and ensuring the BSCL can meaningfully participate in communicating community needs with other those levels of government
Urbanism - doing behind-the-scenes work to understand more about residents day-to-day experiences of the neighbourhood, and making community-level interventions to make the neighbourhood better!
Fund Development - doing the behind-the-scenes work to ensure the work we’re doing in the neighbourhood is financially supported and sustainable
**Some of these groups overlap, and they will likely change as we start working on them. They were created in this way based in specific approaches people involved wanted to take.
Would you like to be involved in any of these groups? Would you like to put on a class, or start a community initiative like a dog walking or writing group? Would you just like to join in on something that is already happening? Be in touch, and also talk to your neighbours and let them know about this too!
We will also be having another neighbour gathering in late November, to welcome even more of us to be involved in these initiatives and others, depending on what your interests are! Please be in touch if you’d like to join in.
All members will be starting to get a monthly newsletter in the next few weeks, where you’ll also receive updates about what’s going on at the BSCL!
Contacted Kim via email, phone at 587-714-BSCL(2725), or fill out this form letting us know what you’re interested in! We can even just have an exploratory chat if you just want to hear more before becoming more involved.
