Food Preservation 101: Crab Apple Preserve

  • Earth's Refillery Co-op and Cafe 10831 95 Street Edmonton, Alberta, T5H 2E2 Canada (map)

With rising food prices, saving money while still finding healthy and delicious food is becoming more challenging than ever. Meanwhile, the average Canadian household wastes 79 kg of food annually, and the country wastes on average 46% of all food. Preventing food waste is a simple action that individuals can take to increase food sovereignty and food security. And food preservation is one of the best ways to prevent food waste, especially during the fall harvest season, when produce is plentiful and at its peak!

To create an accessible way to learn about food preservation, Earth's Refillery Coop, Edmonton Horticultural Society, and New Grocery Movement are holding a 3-part Food Preservation 101 Series!

The final class we will learn about making crab apple preserves. Participants will learn about food safety, how to replicate this easy method at home, and take home a couple jars of crab apple jelly. We will be providing all of the tools and supplies for the class.

We can't wait to have you join us on this food sovereignty journey!
